A new chapter began for Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance this summer when the couple welcomed their fourth child, a baby boy named Alec Neel Vance.
The Vances announced the birth on July 19, 2026, sharing that Usha and the newborn were doing well and that their three older children were excited to meet their new little brother.
Alec’s arrival was notable beyond the family itself. His birth marked the first time in more than 150 years that a sitting U.S. vice president had a child while serving in office. The previous known example was the birth of Schuyler Colfax III in 1870, during the vice presidency of Schuyler Colfax.
Alec joined siblings Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel, bringing the Vance household to six family members. The couple also thanked medical teams at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit following the birth.
In the weeks since Alec’s arrival, Usha Vance has offered glimpses into life with a newborn while balancing the demands of public life. She has also spoken about the unusual experience of raising a baby who receives Secret Service protection because of his father’s position.
For the Vance family, the arrival of Alec represents a deeply personal milestone amid an unusually public life. While political responsibilities continue, the newest member of the family has added an entirely different kind of attention—and plenty of new memories—to their household.
