Air Canada Plane Crash at LaGuardia Leaves Two Dead, Dozens Injured

New York, N.Y. — Two pilots are dead following a crash involving an Air Canada aircraft and an airport fire vehicle at LaGuardia Airport late last night, according to officials.

Authorities say the flight, arriving from Montreal, collided with a fire truck on the runway just before 11:40 p.m. The impact caused significant damage to the nose of the aircraft, killing both the pilot and co-pilot.

According to officials, over 40 individuals were reportedly transported to area hospitals following the crash. While many suffered non-life-threatening injuries, several were reported to be in serious condition. Two firefighters inside the fire vehicle were also injured, though their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

In response to the incident, the Federal Aviation Administration grounded flights at LaGuardia Airport. Officials say the airport will remain closed until at least 2 p.m. today, and as a result, some flights to and from Virginia are being impacted. Roadways and access points surrounding the airport were also shut down as crews worked the scene.

Additionally, the National Transportation Safety Board has responded and is leading the investigation into what caused the collision.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
