This is not a strongly worded press release. This is not a campaign ad. This is the sitting President of the United States using the power of his office to silence a news organization he doesn’t like.
Read what he actually wrote:
*”CNN is being ordered to immediately withdraw this Statement… Authorities are looking to determine whether or not a crime was committed.”*
Let’s be clear about what just happened. A president issued an ORDER to a free press. He weaponized the word “authorities” as a threat. And he’s doing it over a story he simply doesn’t like.
There are only two possibilities here, and both should terrify you.
Either Trump genuinely believes he has the authority to order journalists to retract stories — which is textbook authoritarianism. Or he knows he doesn’t, and he’s doing it anyway to intimidate, bully, and silence — which is even worse.
The First Amendment doesn’t have an asterisk that says “unless the President disagrees.”
This isn’t him fighting fake news. This is him telling you only HIS news is allowed.
That’s not a president. That’s a dictator cosplaying in a suit.
